What is Cinemobile?

Cinemobile is a large truck which transforms into a 100 seater state of the art cinema, fully heated, air conditioned and with Dolby Surround Sound. Mobile cinemas have been in existence in France for the past 20 years. Our machine was born in 2001, having been built by a French company called Toutenkamion (French word for “all in the truck”). Mobile cinemas also operate in Scotland and Eastern Europe.
Essentially the truck unfolds in 45minutes to become a fully operational cinema. Watching the machine transform from truck to Cinemobile is entertainment in itself!

Who picks the films?

Film selection is based on several criteria, the main one being Print Availability. Certain numbers of prints are available in the country when a film is released. Cinemobile must wait for an available copy to become available from a Distributor (e.g. Buena Vista, Eclipse, Warner, U.I.P., Twentieth Century Fox etc, Distributors own the rights to screen the film). Cinemobile never screen films which exceed Cert 15PG, another criteria for print selection.

We generally six films at each location, screening three times each day, early afternoon, matinee and evening. Films are constantly updated to ensure audiences see the most recent films.
Schools are provided with a list of curriculum based titles from which they can programme the machine. Groups are also invited to request titles of their choice, where we can secure a print we will screen their requested film.

What are Film Certs?

Film Certs are classifications assigned to films by the Irish Film Censor.
These Certs are

G
A film classified as 'General' should be suitable for children of school going age. Not every child will respond in the same way to particular themes, scenes and images. What might amuse one child may upset or frighten another, so parents, who know their own children best, should decide what is appropriate.

PG
A film with a 'PG' cert may be watched by unaccompanied children of any age. However, because some element within the overall film might be unsettling for younger children, parents are strongly advised to satisfy themselves in advance as to whether the film is appropriate for their younger children. This website provides information on each film released and links to a range of other sites which provide detailed content info and film reviews.

12A
Films classified as 12A are likely to feature more mature themes, e.g. involving crime, conflict, relationships, etc., but young persons of twelve and over will already be familiar with them from their television viewing.
15A Films classified in this category are considered to be suitable for those of fifteen and upwards. They may also be seen by younger children provided a parent or adult guardian accompanies them.

16
Films classified in this category are considered to be suitable for persons of sixteen or over. Children under this age cannot be admitted to cinemas.

18
We operate on the basis that, as adults, persons who are eighteen and over should be free, subject to the law, to watch what they wish.

Where does Cinemobile tour to?

Cinemobile has been on the road since 2001. At that time locations were chosen based on the following criteria:

· Geographical location - locations must be a certain distance from the nearest cinema. We do not want to encroach on any ones business; we want to bring a service to towns without access to cinema.
· Infrastructure - Does the location have a large accessible parking space. Sometimes it’s the supermarket car park; other times the Mart, GAA or Church car park.
· Audience - Are there schools, youth groups, theatre groups, active retirement groups etc-people who will attend screenings?

Over the past four years our schedule has changed however we try to return to towns a minimum of twice each year, generally every five months. We are always delighted to hear from new communities, towns and festivals seeking our presence.

Cinemobile is also available for private hire, corporate launches and festival events.

How much does it cost to see a film in Cinemobile?

Day time tickets price is €4.50; evening screenings are €6.50 per person.
